The Problem

  • A storage company chain is a well-established Canadian company with 28 storage facilities across Ontario and Atlantic Canada. They operate in a crowded category where getting found is crucial to sales.
  • They had built a new website but because the site transition wasn’t done properly, their rankings fell dramatically off the first page and they suffered a 33% decline in traffic.
  • All the Google rankings they’d built up over time that helped them get found in local markets had vanished because of inadequate SEO, improper redirects and broken links.
  • In January 2015, this storage company chain came to The Marketing Garage for a tune-up.

The Fix

  • We popped the hood on their site and identified a number of problems:
    • The site was poorly optimized, especially on the local level.
    • Locations were buried and pricing was hard to find.
    • The mobile experience was poor.
  • We recommended a new site rebuild where we resolved all the SEO issues and went beyond:
    • We made their locations and pricing more apparent, introduced a keyword-optimized blog, and boosted conversions.
    • We created excellent user experiences for online and mobile.
    • We augmented their Google Maps listings and helped them get more positive reviews for their locations.

The results

  • In just three years, we’ve put their locations and their rankings back on top. Traffic has more than doubled reaching 8,375 visitors. Conversions are up by 245% with 262 online storage unit reservations in April 2017.
  • All of their locations, with the exception of brand new ones, are now on the first page of Google rankings.
  • The company is #1 on Google Maps reviews when ‘storage units Toronto’ is searched.
